Final Tropical Cyclone Warning No.32 for Tonga on Tropical Cyclone Sarai (Category 1) – Tropical Cyclone Warning for TC Sarai (Category 1) for Tonga is now Cancelled

TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVISORY NUMBER 32 FOR TONGA ON TROPICAL CYCLONE SARAI (CATEGORY 1) ISSUED FROM THE FUA’AMOTU TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE AT 12:00PM WEDNESDAY 01 JANUARY 2020

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING NUMBER 24 FOR TONGA.

THE TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE SARAI (CATEGORY 1) FOR TONGA IS NOW CANCELLED.

WARNINGS:

THE GALE WARNING PREVIOUSLY INFORCED FOR VAVA’U, HA’APAI, TONGATAPU AND ‘EUA LAND AREAS AND COASTAL WATERS AND FOR TELE-KI-TONGA AND TELE-KI-TOKELAU COASTAL WATERS IS NOW CANCELLED.

A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS INFORCE FOR THE NIUAS LAND AREAS AND COASTAL WATERS AND IS NOW INFORCED FOR VAVA’U, HA’APAI, TONGATAPU AND ‘EUA LAND AREAS AND COASTAL WATERS AND FOR TELE-KI-TONGA AND TELE-KI-TOKELAU COASTAL WATERS.

A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS INFORCE FOR ALL OF TONGA COASTAL WATERS.

A HEAVY DAMAGING SWELL ADVISORY REMAINS INFORCE FOR VAVA’U, HA’APAI, TONGATAPU, ‘EUA, TELE-KI-TONGA AND TELE-KI-TOKELAU COASTAL WATERS.

SITUATION:

EX-TROPICAL CYCLONE “SARAI” WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 20.7 SOUTH, LONGITUDE 170.8 WEST OR ABOUT, 380KM EAST SOUTHEAST OF PANGAI, HA’APAI, 400KM SOUTHEAST OF NEIAFU, VAVA’U, 430KM EAST OF ‘OHONUA, ‘EUA, 450KM EAST OF NUKU’ALOFA, 610KM SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF THE NIUATOPUTAPU AND 760KM SOUTHEAST NIUAFO’OU AT 10:00AM THIS MORNING. ON ITS CURRENT TRACK, EX-TROPICAL CYCLONE “SARAI” IS STILL MOVING SOUTH EAST AT THE SPEED OF 14 KNOTS (28KM/HR) AND IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE MOVING SOUTH EAST FURTHER AWAY FROM THE GROUP. MEANWHILE A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM IS EXTENDING ONTO THE GROUP FROM THE SOUTH WEST FROM TODAY UNTIL THE WEEKEND.

FOR TONGATAPU, ‘EUA, TELE-KI-TONGA AND TELE-KI-TOKELAU:

MODERATE TO FRESH SOUTH TO SOUTHEAST WINDS 15-20 KNOTS (30-40KM/HR), RISING UP TO STRONG WINDS AT TIMES 25-30 KNOTS (50-60KM/HR). MAINLY FINE APART FROM CLOUDY PERIODS WITH POSIIBLE SCATTERED SHOWERS. ROUGH TO VERY ROUGH SEAS (UP TO 4 METERS). A HEAVY DAMAGING SOUTHWESTERLY SWELL (4 TO 6 METERS). MARINERS OF SMALL FISHING BOATS FOR TONGATAPU, ‘EUA, TELE-KI-TONGA AND TELE-KI-TOKELAU COASTAL WATERS ARE HEREBY ADVISED NOT TO GO OUT TO SEA.FOR HA’APAI AND VAVA’U:
