As of today, 5 new cases reported with positive rapid test, which brings up the total cumulative DF cases to 363.

Majority of confirmed cases from Vava’u (204), the rest from Tongatapu (116) and ‘Eua (43).

A total of 5 cases are currently hospitalized (4 in Prince Ngu, 1 in Niuéiki). All in stable condition.

No dengue-related death reported to date.

Age group mostly affected is 10-19 years old. Youngest age affected is a 4 months old baby boy.

Dengue Virus Type 2 (DENV-2) is the responsible virus for this current outbreak in Tonga.

Testing for Dengue Fever will be prioritized to only moderate and severe cases presented to any health care facility.
Response Activities

Ongoing case investigation and vector control to hot spot and high risk areas, and awareness programs to communities and schools including the GMS Kolonga and GMS Nukuálofa in Tongatapu: FWC Holeva and FWC Taánea ín Vavaú.

The ongoing support from the people and communities, Government Ministries and NGOs, and stakeholders, as well as the continuous technical supports from WHO and UNICEF.

The Situation Report on Dengue Outbreak will be done twice a week from now on.
Recommendations for the Public

Continue to clean up and destroy mosquito breeding sites around the HOME and SCHOOLS.

Wear appropriate clothing to minimize mosquito bites and use mosquito nets and repellents such as lotion and spray.

If you are sick, watch out for severe symptoms and seek medical attention immediately.
