Important points: Report of measles cases has increased from 4 last week to 39 this week. One case of suspected cholera was reported from Dili. No case of acute jaundice syndrome was reported this week after the sharp increase recorded last week.

Formal reports:

For week 04 of 2001, the IDSEP unit has received reports from 10 out of 13 districts, representing 11,137 consultations from 11 agencies operating 65 fixed and mobile health facilites. The two districts with highest report of cases per 100 000 inhabitants were Lautem (5067) and Manatuto (2601).

The number of measles cases has increased from 4 to 39. Bobonaro district reported 23 cases and Ainaro district 13 cases.

One case of suspected cholera was reported from AMI Portugal clinic in Dili.

After the sharp increase in cases of acute jaundice syndrome reported last week from 2 to 30, no case was reported this week.

The number of acute febrile illness cases reported remains low 138,87 of which were reported from Lautem district. Again this week Lautem district reported by far the highest numer of suspected malaria cases (522). The report of only 3 cases from Manufahi district is not surprising as only Turiscai mobile clinic sent a report.

Lautem district reported one death in children under 5 caused by watery diarrhoea and one death caused by lower respiratory infection in a patient older than 5 years.

There were no reported cases of suspected meningitis, acute flaccid paralysis or neonatal tetanus this week.

Informal report:

During last meeting of the vector borne disease control working group PKF reported 5 case of dengue in Comoro, 3 in the Egyptian contingent and a few scattered cases in the other contingents. No case of haemorrhagic dengue was reported. UNTAET civilian clinic in Dili reported 2 cases of suspected dengue (one positive).

Several clinics from Covalima district reported lot of skin infections (no numbers).

Balibo clinic in Bobonaro district reported a maternal death caused by retained placenta and postpartum haemorrhage.
