Thailand – Severe Weather Update (DG ECHO, IFRC, TMD, Local Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 13 January 2017)

◾Heavy rain has been affecting the southern provinces of the country over the past weeks, causing widespread floods.

◾As of 13 January at 7.00 (UTC), local media reported that the death toll has reached 36 people.

◾It is estimated that more than 1 million people have been affected by the floods, and more than 360,000 houses have been damaged. The Thai Red Cross Society has been distributing relief items and working closely with national, provincial and local authorities to address the most urgent needs of affected communities.

◾Over the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain is forecast to affect the north-eastern, eastern and southern areas of the country, including the ones already affected.
