Thailand – Myanmar refugee influx in Tak province (DG ECHO, Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 07 April 2023)

  • Fighting between Myanmar army and ethnic armed organisation, Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) intensified in Myanmar’s Myawaddy province on 5 April. Approximately 4,000-8,000 refugees, including about 800 children, have been displaced to Mae Sot and Mae Ramat districts of Tak province of Thailand.

  • According to media, around 5,428 people have fled to Thailand’s temporary shelters across 10 areas in Tak province on 6 April and many are waiting to cross to Thailand via the Moei river. People are without drinking water and toilets.

  • Authorities and volunteers provided food, drinking water, and medicine to refugees. In addition, fighting has reportedly continued, prompting the evacuation of local people.
