Today (January, 29), Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont chaired a teleconference meeting amongst governors of the flood-hit provinces. The premier assured them during the meeting that the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC) will outline a plan to assist the majority of farmers and entrepreneurs affected by inundation and will later submit it to the Cabinet for approval soon.

Meanwhile, MOAC Minister Thira Sutabutr informed that on February 1, MOAC will hold an official meeting amongst flood-stricken farmers, including those who run orchid plantations.

Mr Thira added that more than 500,000 farmers from 47 provinces have been affected by the flood situation last year. MOAC has so far compensated about 200,000 of them. The minister expresses his confidence that by the end of February this year, the rest of the farmers will be assisted by MOAC.
