The Ministry of Agriculture will be concluding its flood assistance policies for the 2006 flooding crisis, after successfully allocating over 1 billion baht to flood victims.
The Permanent Secretary of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Mr. Banpot Hongthong reported that compensation to flood victims is 99.14 percent completed, with more than 500,000 agriculturists having been reimbursed for damages to their crops. Only 2000 agriculturists remain uncompensated with the Department of Agricultural Extension having been assigned to assist them.
The permanent secretary reports that the Ministry of Agriculture will be returning some funds allocated by the government due to an excess supply. Mr. Banpot said a Cabinet assessment has deemed compensation efforts to be satisfactory, due to the prompt nature of officials in assisting flood victims.
