Thailand: Floods wreck havoc to Songkla province worth 100 million baht

Mr. Vijit Chantharapan, chief of Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Songkla province, stated today (December 7) that the inundation in the province from November 18 and December 6 caused damages to 13 districts, 86 sub-districts, 455 villages. 187,899 local people were affected by the floods. The initial cost of damages was expected to be over 100 million baht.

In many districts, the flood waters have decreased to normal levels, but some areas were still inundated due to Songkla lake's waters spate.

The floods have affected approximately 20,000 families in Sogkla province. They needed urgent help. Authorities have helped and handed out survival kits, but there were not enough supplies to go around, he said.

Due to shortage of the necessary supplies, Songkla province has set up a donation centre to help the victims. The centre would accept rice, dried foods, common drugs, water and other items useful in everyday's life, excepting clothes. People who are willing to donate can do so at the centre of donation for flood victims in Songkla province.
