The director-general of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Mr. Songsak Wongbhumiwat, expressed confident that the compensations for the farmers who were affected from last year's flood disaster would be paid within February 15th.

Mr. Songsak said the Agricultural Extension Department has received a budget of over 3.6 billion baht for compensating 399,919 flood-hit farmers in 298 districts of 31 provinces. At present, compensations have been given to 171,400 farmers in 176 districts in 25 provinces, or around 53.5 percent of the fund has been spent. The total amount of money given is about 1.9 billion baht.

Mr. Songsak said all compensations for farmers should be given by the middle of next month. As for the flood-affected farmers who are not in the list, if the district or provincial funds are sufficient, they will be used to compensate them right away. If not, money from the central administration will be used instead. He said all agencies are working together systematically so problems should not arise.
