Thailand: Flood aid panel to clarify housing assistance to victims on 16-18 Apr

BANGKOK, 11 April 2011 (NNT) – The committee for assistance of flood victims will send a team of staff to troubled areas in the South during 16-18 April to inform those affected about the home renovation program.

In his capacity as the head of the flood assistance committee, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Satit Wonghnongtaey stated that a team of 30 representatives from related agencies, such as the Community Organizations Development Institute, the Engineering Institute of Thailand, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Prime Minister’s Office, would pay a visit to southern provinces affected by the recent flood during 16-18 April.

The main responsibility of the team will be to follow up on the living conditions of those whose residences were destroyed by the disaster and to raise their awareness of the Government’s relief effort in the area of housing. Reportedly, the displaced will be given temporary shelters until the construction of their new homes is completed.

However, the assistance guideline will be studied again by the flood aid panel on 19 April. The initial budget for the purpose has been set at 200 million THB, which will come from the disaster relief fund of the Prime Minister’s Office as well as donations from the private sector.
