Thailand: Flashflood hits Lampang province, help expedited

BANGKOK, 14 August 2010 (NNT) - Lampang province has been hit by flashflood while officials from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) are hastily providing help.

According to reports, the flood struck the northern province of Lampang on Friday night with the water level as high as one meter. Over 1,200 households and 36 villages in 7 districts have been affected. However, the water level is currently decreasing.

Lampang Governor Supakit Boonyarittipong said that local authorities and rescue teams from the provincial DDPM Office had been deployed to help the flood victims. The assessment of the overall damage is underway.
