Thailand: Ang Thong Governor calls meeting on flood conditions

Governor of Ang Thong province Somchai Anawatchakun calls a meeting this morning to discuss the flood situation in the province, especially in Tambon Phongpheang and Pa Mok district. More than 480 villagers have been affected by the flooding.

The governor disclosed that some of the villagers have slept on a highway as their villages have been submerged and they have to use boats to travel to other places. At present, nine villages in the province are completely inundated.

Local administrative organizations in Ang Thong are expediting aid for the flood-affected people and distributing survival kits to them. Two public health stations have provided medical treatment to the villagers. The province reported that the villagers still have good morale and they believe that the authorities can effectively tackle the flood conditions.

The governor said there are many factors influencing the water situation in Ang Thong including water released by the Chao Phraya Dam and rainfalls in nearby provinces.
