BANGKOK, 30 March 2011 (NNT)-Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has approved an additional fund of 100 million baht in relief efforts to help Southern residents who have been coping with rising inundation as a result of heavy rains in the past few days.

The Government Chief Whip, Wittaya Keawparadai and his team of Nakhon Si Thammarat MPs updated the Prime Minister on flood situation in the South yesterday before the Cabinet approved another 100 million baht in relief fund on top of an existing budget of 50 million baht for each province affected by flash floods. Mr. Abhisit is scheduled to travel to visit flood stricken towns in the South today.

Meanwhile, Democrat Party Leader's Personal Spokesperson Thepthai Senpong said despite the absence of some of the MPs whose constituencies were in the flood hit areas as they were due to attend the Parlianment, provincial authorities had been instructed to proceed with the distribution of the relief packages to flood victims. Mr. Thepthai added that each bag was worth 500 baht and asked those receiving the bags to verify the items in them to prove that they were not undervalued.
