After severe floods hit 8 provinces in the south of Thailand over the past week, the Relief and Community Health Bureau of the Thai Red Cross Society has actively carried out assistance to people in the affected areas.
Between 24 March – 4 April 2011, 21, 006 relief bags containing canned food, first aid kits, candles, plastic bags household medicines and medicines for foot diseases have been distributed together with 238,800 bottles of drinking water to victims in 6 provinces, namely Chumporn, Patthalung, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani and Krabi. The Thai Red Cross also provided mobile relief kitchen to prepare 18,045 meals for people affected by the floods in Surat Thani province. In addition, 9 flat bottom boats have evacuated flood-trapped people from 2 provinces of Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani. The total value of assistance to date is 22,735,350 Baht.
