NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 01 March 2017 (NNT) - Officials in Nakhon Si Thammarat province are working to fix garbage disposal problems after a month-long flood.
The cleanup operation followed an instruction from Director-General of the Pollution Control Department (PCD) Jatuporn Buruspat. Local officials are sanitizing the flooded areas and sending collected garbage directly to a waste-to-energy plant, instead of to a regular treatment system.
Director-General Jatuporn explained that the move would prevent polluted water from entering agricultural zones and contaminating water sources.
He disclosed that the provincial administration office has already cleaned affected areas and erected 2-3 meter tall barriers to contain the garbage. The Director-General pointed out that the administration will renovate the province's landfill for proper waste management.
