BANGKOK, 8 January 2012 (NNT) – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has instructed the Ministry of Natural Resources and environment to urgently provide shelters to those flood affected in Nakorn Sri Thammarat while apologizing for the problems surrounding the THB2,000 discount coupons.
Prime Minister Yingluck on Sunday traveled to flood-ravaged province of Nakorn Sri Thammarat to give moral supports to the locals and inspect the damage. She has ordered the responsible agency to provide temporary accommodation to locals residing near the embankment. The premier guaranteed that financial assistance for flooding in the South would be the same as that allocated to flood victims in other regions.
The Prime minister also apologized for the confusion and problems the discount coupons may have caused and promised to solve the problems as soon as possible.
The THB2,000 discount coupons have been distributed to flood-hit households with an aim to relieve financial burden when purchasing new electrical appliances. It has run into many problems including the complicated redeem process, an availability of participating shops and limited choices of electrical items.
