PM orders integration of operations in addressing drought disaster

March 8, 2016, at 1415hrs, at the Command Building I, Government House, following the weekly cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, Col. Taksada Sangkhachan, Assistant Government Spokesperson, revealed about the Prime Minister’s orders at the meeting. The Prime Minister called on all ministries to work in an integrative manner in addressing drought disaster, and creating common understanding on conservation and efficient consumption of water, as well as agricultural restructuring to promote new form of inclusive agriculture through cultivation of drought-resistant crops.

As for a measure on water discharge at 4 major dams, it is designated that water be discharged 18 million cubic meter per day. Communities where weirs can be constructed are urged to do so to retain water for consumption. Construction of community weirs will also forge unity among the local people.

The Prime Minister also thanked Ministry of Industry for the use of treated water for agricultural purposes.

Col. Athisit Chainuwat, Assistant Government Spokesperson, also disclosed about the Prime Minister’s reaction on the report of Ministry of Culture about series of event to celebrate Makha Bucha Day. He thanked all sectors for their contribution to the success of those events, and ordered the Ministry to organize joint events among different religions to promote people’s unity, virtue, ethics, and good governance.
