Navy deploys ships, manpower to help southern flood victims

SAMUT PRAKAN, 7 January 2017 (NNT) – The Navy has deployed ships, aircraft and officers to help flood victims in the southern region, with its first ship to arrive in Nakhon Sri Thammarat on 8 January.

The Navy has dispatched 20 thruster ships, officers and landing craft to Nakhon Sri Thammarat to provide assistance to the flood victims with the landing vehicle expected to arrive in the southern province in the night of 7 January.

The thruster ships have set sail with equipment and additional officers from Phra Chulachomklao Navy Garage in Samut Prakarn province alongside HTMS Angthong transport vessel with a helipad. The ships are expected to arrive in Nakhon Sri Thammarat at 05.00 p.m. on 8 January.

HTMS Angthong will act as command center with relief items and food and serve as a field hospital and kitchen. The operation will utilize helicopters to transport goods from the vessel to the flooded areas.

The Navy's relief operation will continue until the flood situation has improved.
