2024 Quarter 3 overview

In Jul–Sep 2024, Greater Mekong subregion (GMS) countries reported 48 115 malaria cases.

Cambodia

Cambodia reported 59 cases, an 83% decrease compared to the same time period in 2023. P. falciparum + mixed cases, P. vivax and other species constituted 0%, 93% and 7% of cases, respectively.

China (Yunnan Province)

Yunnan reported 104 cases. Among those, no indigenous cases were reported. P. falciparum + mixed cases, P. vivax and other species constituted 1%, 99% and 0% of cases, respectively.

Lao People's Democratic Republic

Lao People's Democratic Republic reported 120 cases, a 65% decrease compared to the same time period in 2023. P. falciparum + mixed cases, P. vivax and other species constituted 11%, 89% and 0% of cases, respectively.

Myanmar

Myanmar reported 43 160 cases. P. falciparum + mixed cases, P. vivax and other species constituted 6%, 94% and 0% of cases, respectively. It should be noted that only partial data was available for Myanmar during this period.

Thailand

Thailand reported 4582 cases, a 12% decrease compared to the same time period in 2023. P. falciparum + mixed cases, P. vivax and other species constituted 5%, 94% and 1% of cases, respectively.

Viet Nam

Viet Nam reported 90 cases, a 60% decrease compared to the same time period in 2023. P. falciparum + mixed cases, P. vivax and other species (reported as P. malariae) constituted 64%, 22% and 14% of cases, respectively.
