BANGKOK, 8 June 2012 (NNT) – The government has ordered a speedy distribution of assistance to residents of the South who have been affected by recent heavy rain and flash floods.
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyoot Wichaidit said on Thursday that all related state agencies have been instructed to rush help to all areas in southern Thailand, where heavy rain and flash floods have damaged facilities or even taken some lives.
While expressing his condolences to the victims of the tragic incidents, the Deputy PM stated that the government will make sure all flood victims receive timely and sufficient attention and assistance.
When asked about next week’s trip by the prime ministers and Cabinet ministers to flood-prone areas, Mr. Yongyoot said that concerned provincial governors are speeding up all works on the water management project, for which the government has allocated the budget for the implementation.
He added that any province with delayed works will be under close scrutiny and respective provincial governors will be particularly evaluated before the next civil servant reshuffle in September.
The DPM also stated that the performance evaluation of other provincial governors, whose areas are not included in the upcoming inspection trip but were hit by last year’s flood crisis, will also be conducted and take into consideration complaints on unscrupulous distribution of the government’s post-flood rehabilitation budget.
