Updated April 5, 2011 14:09:13

More than 50 people are confirmed dead most of them drowned in heavy flooding in southern Thailand.

More than a week of heavy rain has caused floods in 10 of Thailand's 77 provinces, submerging homes, triggering landslides and washing away roads and bridges. Tens of thousands of people have been forced to live in temporary shelters. Yesterday the Thai cabinet approved nearly 100 million U-S dollars in assistance to flood victims.
