Cabinet grants 685 mn THB for repairing flood-hit schools

BANGKOK, 20 April 2011 (NNT) – The Cabinet has agreed to set aside a budget worth 685 million THB for the renovation of schools in the South which were damaged by the recent floods.

After the weekly Cabinet meeting, Education Minister Chinnaworn Boonyakiat announced that an approval had been given to the proposed budget of 685 million THB, which would be spent on reparation works on educational institutions within southern provinces ravaged by flashfloods last month. Based on the survey, a total of 1,355 schools have sustained damages from the catastrophe.

As part of the assistance for students affected by the floods, the Education Ministry will also provide them with jobs and a monthly salary of 2,450 THB until the end of the 2011 fiscal year.

In a related development, Mr Chinnaworn said the Cabinet assigned Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Satit Wonghnongtaey, as head of the committee for assistance of flood victims, to follow up the relief effort in the South and compile a report on the overall damage for presentation to the Cabinet on a later occasion.
