BANGKOK, 12 April 2010 (NNT) – The Cabinet has agreed to set aside over 935 million THB for the renovation of transport routes in southern provinces damaged by the recent floods.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Supachai Jaisamut announced that the Cabinet had endorsed a budget, worth more than 935 million THB, proposed by the committee for the assistance of flood victims for spending on the reparation of transport infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, throughout ten flood-ravaged provinces in the South.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva appointed Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Satit Wonghnongtaey to instruct the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission to require contracted media production companies to have programs specifically for warning the public in case of natural disasters.
A special unit for alleviating impacts from disasters is also deemed necessary as existing agencies, such as the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, often run into operational hiccups, which in turn delay their help for the victims.
