BANGKOK, 3 January, 2012 (NNT)-Director General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Mr. Wiboon Sanguanpong has revealed that rescue officers and flat- bottom boats have already been dispatched to evacuate flood victims in the South to safe places.
According to the Director General, the continuous downpours since December 31st have triggered flash floods in many areas in the lower South of Thailand. 9 provinces, including, Songkhla, Yala, Pattani, Narathiwas, Pattlung, Nakornsrithammarat, Krabi, Surathani and Chumporn, and 56 districts have been inundated.
Residents in the flooded zones have been evacuated to safer places by the rescue units using flat-bottom boats. Those who are in emergency situations can call a 24-hour hotline 1784, or contact the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Provincial Office in Songkhla and Suratthani.
