BANGKOK, 1 April 2013 (NNT) - Over 2,000 houses have been damaged by a summer storm, described by locals in Chiang Rai as the biggest in five decades.
Deputy Governor of Chiang Rai province Piphat Ekphaphan revealed that 1,500 houses in eight districts of Chiang Rai province had reportedly been damaged by the summer storm. Locals in Mae Lao district of Chiang Rai Province described the summer storm as the "biggest in 50 years".
Provincial authorities has already asked the military to send in troops to help repair the damaged houses.
Meanwhile, in the nearby Fang district of Chiang Mai Province, five hundred more homes, as well as farm produce, were also reported to have been damaged in the area. As a temporary relief measure, local authorities have distributed roofing tiles to affected locals so that they could repair their homes.
