SONGKHLA, 2 January 2012 (NNT) - Twelve districts, out of 16, in Songkhla Province have been declared flood disaster zones; however, the overall flood situation has improved, with the water levels in Hat Yai expected to reduce today.
According to Hat Yai News Center, 12 districts in Songkhla including Hat Yai have been declared disaster zones. Over 20,000 residents in nearly 400 villages have been affected and one person was killed by the flood.
However, the overall situation in the 12 districts is getting better, leaving only the areas close to the U-tapao River and drainage canals susceptible to overflow.
Currently, four communities in Hat Yai are under water 30-50 centimeter deep. It is expected that the water would begin to recede later today, given the massive runoff has already passed.
