WFP started distribution under the school meals programme as the academic year began in September, providing training to the local Ministry of Education focal points. WFP currently has sufficient resources for school meals until the end of October, however without additional contributions, WFP will be forced to suspend the programme in November.
Following the arrival of specialized food in country on 13 September, WFP is ready to resume its malnutrition treatment programme. The nutrition programme has been suspended since March due to lack of resources.
WFP continues Food Assistance for Assets, implementing various activities including tree plantation in schools, livelihood support in earthquake-affected areas, assets rehabilitation/building, such as DWSS, bridges and roads, riverbank walls and irrigation facilities.
Following the start of the academic year in September, WFP Tajikistan resumed food distributions to schools as part of its School Meals project.
A shipment of Super Cereal Plus, utilized in activities to treat moderate acute malnutrition, arrived in country on September 13. WFP is working with partners to organize distributions from October, targeting 1,100 children in Khatlon region (Kulob, Skahritus, Belkhi districts).
