Tajikistan: SDC supports flood-affected population of Varzob District

On the 29th of October SDC and CARE International inaugurated a newly constructed bridge in Porut village, Varzob District.

The Swiss Confederation constantly supports the population of Tajikistan in different development sectors. The Disaster Reduction Programme of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) aims to ensure safe life and sustainable livelihood by minimizing the effects of natural risks, and thus assists the population frequently hit by disasters all over the country. The Varzob Flood Rehabilitation Project started in autumn 2004 to support the population of Varzob district to recover after the destructive floods in July. The project implemented by CARE International was aimed at rehabilitation of district infrastructure heavily affected by the floods. SDC contributed 30'000 US Dollars to the Varzob Flood Rehabilitation Project, which allowed to rehabilitate two bridges in the villages of Obi-Hirv and Porut and to restore the drinking water supply system in Hushyori village of Varzob District.
