I. ABOUT MOBILITY TRACKING MATRIX
II. INTRODUCTION
The Mobility Tracking Matrix (MTM) is a system based on IOM’s Global Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM),¹ which aims to track and monitor population mobility. MTM collects and analyzes information about mobility and vulnerabilities of mobile populations. This system facilitates the systematic collection and dissemination of information to key decision-makers on the needs of migrant populations. This Tajikistan Migration Situation Report consolidates official statistics and reputable secondary sources to provide an overview of key migration dynamics affecting Tajikistan during January and June 2025. Tajikistan remains one of the most migration-dependent countries in the world, with outward labour mobility and the resulting in remittance inflows shaping demographic trends, household welfare and macroeconomic stability. In the first half of 2025, migration patterns continued to be influenced by evolving policies in principal destination countries, particularly the Russian Federation, as well as Tajikistan’s ongoing efforts to diversify destination markets and formalize overseas employment pathways (Ziyaev et al., 2025; Mirzoev, 2025; European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, 2025). This report provides a comprehensive overview of migration stocks and flows, labour migration dynamics, irregular migration and remittance trends, drawing on the latest official data and IOM-supported findings. Where official half‑year figures for 2025 were not yet available from the primary source at the time of drafting, the most recent comparable data is used with clear notes on coverage and comparability.
