Tajikistan – Flash Floods and Mudslide in Kulyab Zone (ECHO Daily Flash of 4 May 2014)

■Additional heavy rains occurred in Kulyab zone from 24 to 25 April 2014 hampering the debris removal process of the affected communities. Seven more households of Shuroobod district have been affected and one more person died.

■Key sectors where negative impacts of the event are observed are Shelter, WASH, Health, Food Security, Livelihoods, and Education.

■UNICEF, together with Tajik National University will provide psycho-social support to the affected children in Sarichashma Jamoat. Red Crescent Society Tajikistan (TRCS), with financial support of German Red Cross/Central Asia is distributing food parcels targeting 192 affected families of Hamadoni, Vose, Kulyab and Muminobod districts; UNDP has provided 1.5 ton of diesel to the local authorities to support debris removal from the road to access affected communities. In addition, UNDP released non-food items from the United Nations Emergency Reserve Stock (UNERT) and UN World Food Programme distributed 37.5 tons of food items targeting around 2 312 affected people. Plans on recovery interventions for the affected households are in the process of finalization by the Government.
