The International Federation undertakes activities that are aligned with its Global Agenda, which sets out four broad goals to achieve the Federation's mission to "improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity".

Global Agenda Goals:

- Reduce the numbers of deaths, injuries and impact from disasters.

- Reduce the number of deaths, illnesses and impact from diseases and public health emergencies.

- Increase local community, civil society and Red Cross Red Crescent capacity to address the most urgent situations of vulnerability.

- Reduce intolerance, discrimination and social exclusion and promote respect for diversity and human dignity.

The Situation

On the 22 July at 3.44 in the morning, an earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit Rasht valley in Rasht district. Preliminary information was received from the Committee of Emergency Situations (CoES) of Tajikistan, Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan (RCST) branch of Rasht district and Rapid Emergency Assessment and Coordination Team (REACT) members working in Rasht valley. The information states that a number of persons were killed and several were injured, 170 houses were totally destroyed and more than 1,000 houses were partly damaged. In total it can be estimated that around 7,000 people have been affected.
