As report by MoES on 24 June 2005, due
to rapid warming of temperature and melting snow, water level in Pianj
River has significantly increased, damaging the riverbank protection facilities
in the area of Mir Said Alii Hamadoni (former Moskovskiy) of Khatlon Oblast.
Villages of three different Jamoats of the District - Turdiev, Kalinin
and Dashtigulo Jamoats were identified to be under the threat of flooding.
According to the information from UN
DRMP and UNDP area office in Kulyab on 29 June, 258 households (2,050 people)
-- residents of Metantughai village of Jamoat Turdiev, were evacuated to
Sayod village of the same Jamoat.
The Government has set up a temporary camp in Sayod village for evacuation of the population.
In Dashtigulo Jamoat of the District, 25 households from 2 villages -- Dashtigulo (Betonzavod locality) and Faizobod villages -- are evacuated to the nearest hospital. It was reported, that all houses of these residents are fully destroyed.
Inhabitants of Dehkonarik Jamoat, Farkhor District are also under the threat of flood. They left their houses and have been spending their nights in a location called Zoli-Zar hill, UNDP Kulyab area office reports.
Due to the continuing floods, some areas of the District are inaccessible, so detailed information on the current situation is scarce. RCST/IFRC is continuing their assessment of damages and needs. WFP and MoES are going to conduct a joint assessment as soon as the areas are accessible.
UN DRMP and UNDP area office in Kulyab reports of the following damages:
- 48hektars of cotton land, 190hektars of wheat land, 5km of roads from Hamadoni District center to Turdiev Jamoat, 3,5km of river bank and 3 water distributor structures were reported damaged.
- Three bridges are damaged: Tagnob - Faizobod bridge, which connects these villages to Hamadoni District center; the bridge within Turdiev Jamoat; and the bridge which is situated in Kulyab -- Farkhor road in Hamadoni District territory.

Tajik insurance company "Tajikgosstrakh" is providing wheat flour and oil to 15 households evacuated from Dashtigulo (Betonzavod locality) village.
