SITUATION OVERVIEW

SEVERITY OF THE CRISIS

In July 2015, mudflows caused by melting of glaciers and heavy rainfall killed at least seven persons, affected more than 7,000 persons, displaced more than 1,000 persons and significantly damaged key infrastructure. Most affected are the Region of Republican Subordination and GornoBadakhshan Autonomous Oblast. The capacity of many affected communities were already overstretched before the mudflows, which has severly limited their coping mechanisms. To date, several communities are still living in isolation.
