Situation overview
Damage and needs assessment is still on-going and is being carried out by representatives of Local Disaster Management Commission (LDMC), and number of REACT partners, namely: National Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan (RCST), WFP, FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance and representatives of REACT Secretariat in Dushanbe. Considering the fact that assessment has not been completed so far, figures on damage caused are slightly changing. According to the latest information received from the site, total of 140 houses (with approximately 700 residents) are considered to be fully destroyed. Another 921 homes (with 6215 residents) are partially affected.
Residents of the fully destroyed houses are currently evacuated to local mosques, schools and houses of neighbors and relatives. According to Ministry of Health several medical points, including Vanj Central District Hospital have been damaged, nevertheless are still operational, except of District Health Center (outpatient clinic), which is seriously damaged and non-functional.
Secondary schools # 4, 5 and music school # 1 in Vanj district center have been damaged, however assessments indicated that premises can still be used.
