Situation overview
On 02 January 2010 at 7:15 AM an earthquake with the magnitude of 5.3 hit about twenty villages in two Jamoats of Vanj District in GBAO, Tajikistan. The epicenter of the earthquake was close to district center, and there are no reports of casualties or injuries.
According to FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance, significant impact has been on five villages of Vanj Jamoat (Uskrogh, Panjshanbeobod, Gishkhun, Dashtirogh, Rokharv) and Jamak village of Yazgulom Jamoat. Additionally Andarbak, Budun, Motravn, Vishkharv, Dashti Yazgulom and Zaich villages of Yazgulom Jamoat have also been affected by earthquake, where houses are partially damaged. Distance from the epicenter to Khorog town (center of GBAO) is 80 km North, and 235 km East of the capital Dushanbe.
