Event Overview
As a result of heavy rains, at 13.30 - 14.15 on May 5, 2010 mudflow occurred in the village Khishekat, Jamoat Rasrovut, Ghonchi district of Sughd province with the total population of around 3300 people ( 624 households). Following CoES in Sughd authorities request, REACT- Khujand assessment team visited the disaster site and jointly with the local authoritie s conducted primary Damage and Needs assessment. Due to the assessment, Mudflow totally destroyed 16 houses (9 fully destroyed and 6 partly destroyed), building of community mosque / library. Inhabitants of the totally destroyed houses are currently hosted by relatives and neighbors. At the time of mudflow around 30 individuals were located at the mudflow origin area and were evacuated by members of Local Disaster Committee (established and trained with the support of RCST).
Mudflow damaged 3,5 km of water supply lines and currently access to clean drinking water and irrigation water in the village is restricted. As an alternative source of drinking water, population is using small river located 3 km away from village. In addition, electricity supply lines have been damaged and currently electricity is available in the village. Mudflow destroyed crops on 9 ha of kitchen gardens and another 3 ha of agriculture fields.
