The Government Offices has decided to increase
support to the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)
mission in Tajikistan against the proliferation of small arms and light
weapons (SALW) by providing an additional SEK 800 000.
The Swedish support will primarily be
used to improve security at existing storage facilities to minimise the
risk of theft and proliferation, explosion and other damage that can pose
a danger to the civilian population.
"Sweden will now make a further contribution to the OSCE's important work of preventing proliferation and safeguarding stockpiles of small arms and light weapons in Tajikistan. An important aspect of this mission is that it also promotes security for the civilian population," says Carin Jämtin, Minister for International Development Cooperation.
Sweden contributed SEK 800 000 to the OSCE mission in Tajikistan earlier this year.
