Highlights
Between the 28 th of April and the 1 st of June 2024, epiweeks 18-22, 2,310,557 consultations including 402,714 (17%) notifiable diseases have been reported in Whole of Syria (WoS) to both Early Warning, Alert, and Response System (EWARS) in Syria Humanitarian Coordination Team (HCT) operational areas, including Northeast Syria (NES), and Early Warning Alert and Response Network (EWARN) in Northwest Syria (NWS) as well as NES which is served by both systems.
A total of 1,995 sentinel surveillance sites reported to both EWARS and EWARN between epiweeks 18 and 22, with a combined average of 93.2% completeness and 90.4% timeliness.
A total of 285 alerts were raised to both EWARS (231) and EWARN (54), after initial discarding of false alerts, 252 alerts were verified within 72 hours (100%), 4 acute events were identified, and measles continues to be the only ongoing outbreak in WoS.
During the reporting period, the leading causes of morbidity of all notifiable communicable diseases among all age groups were Influenza Like Illneses (ILI) 248,717 (62%); Acute Diarrhea (AOD) 130,283 cases (33%), and Leishmania 9,261 cases (2%).
