Highlights
• Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs to the Security Council: “People in Syria struggle a little bit more every day to put food on the table… The trend is clear: more people need humanitarian support each year to survive.”
• Syria is facing an unprecedented fuel crisis. Higher demand for fuel due to the winter season, and delays in international fuel supplies, have resulted in fuel shortages.
• WFP distributed humanitarian assistance sufficient for an estimated 5.96 million people across all activities in Syria in December.
• By November 2022, the national average price of a WFP reference food basket reached a new record high of SYP 381,351(≈USD 126), up 6.7 percent compared to the previous month, with fourteen-fold increase since November 2019.
