DAMASCUS, 4 May 2014 – UNICEF calls on all parties to the Syrian conflict to stop the continuous spiral of deadly violence, which is taking an unacceptable toll on civilians, particularly children.
In the latest attacks, 18 people were reportedly killed including 11 children, in two separate car bombings on Friday, 2 May, in the villages of Jibrin and al-Humeiri in the Hama governorate. A further 50 people were wounded.
On 30 April, at least 30 children were reportedly killed and scores wounded following an air strike on Ein Jalout school in the Al-Ansari neighbourhood of Aleppo city.
Prior to this incident, throughout the month of April, scores of children were killed or injured in indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas that affected several parts of the country including in Homs and central and Rural Damascus.
“The children of Syria continue to pay the heaviest price of the conflict. The recent escalation of attacks makes this cost unbearable,” said Youssouf Abdel-Jelil, Representative of UNICEF Syria.
