HIGHLIGHTS

  • Escalating violence in Lattakia and Tartous in February and March displaced 51,000 people

and claimed 1,500 lives, including children, severely disrupting basic services, and halting most humanitarian operations.

  • Explosive ordnance accidents since December 2024 have killed 317 people including 71

Children and injured 447 more, highlighting the urgent need for protection and risk education.

  • More than 1.07 million3 internally displaced persons have also returned to their homes.

622,283 IDP returnees are children.4 Additionally, 472,963 refugees5 have returned to Syria from neighbouring countries since 8 December 2024.

  • UNICEF, through its partners, has provided basic essential services to more than 2 million people since the start of the year, 53 per cent of whom are children.

Around 97 per cent of the beneficiaries are in extreme and high-severity areas. Among the beneficiaries, 192,000 were Syrian refugee returnees,

including 63 per cent children and 30 per cent women
