Highlights:

  • Following tensions and active hostilities in the coastal regions since 6 March, the situation remains volatile, with ongoing clashes, targeted attacks, and worsening humanitarian conditions.
  • UNICEF issued a statement on 8 March expressing deep concern about the recent surge in violence in Syria’s coastal areas.
  • UNICEF provided 34,000 litres of sodium hypochlorite in Lattakia governorate to ensure safe access to water in coastal areas.
  • Since 27 November, UNICEF has reached 49,030 children (24,933 girls) with formal education through school maintenance, the provision of temporary learning spaces, and essential educational supplies.
  • UNICEF, through its partners, has reached more than 1.2 million people, 54 per cent of children, with basic essential services since 27 November.
