Managed by WFP, the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) has served as a critical air transport solution for the humanitarian community in Syria since 2020. By operating regular flights between Damascus, Qamishli, and Aleppo, UNHAS has filled a vital transport gap, addressing challenges posed by long travel times, vast distances, and localized insecurity. Additionally, many humanitarian organizations face restrictions on using commercial air travel in Syria, making UNHAS the only viable air transport option for humanitarian workers and cargo.
