Syrian Arab Republic: Rukban Departures (As of 24 April 2019)

OVERVIEW

As of 21 April, 4,303 people have left Rukban in the last month. They left in six batches organizing their own transportation to the edge of the 55km area. From there, they either continued on in their vehicles or were transferred by private or Government provided vehicles to four collective shelters in Homs city: Mahmoud Othman school in Al-Qusour neighborhood; Al Baraa Ibn Malek school in Deir Baalba; and Abdul Rahman Shattoor school and the Teachers Institute in Al Bayada. The UN is providing life-saving assistance through SARC, en route and at the shelters, and visited the shelters for the first time on 24 April.

As of 22 April, 603 people remain in the shelters while the rest have left and returned to their area of origin in Homs governorate. Some men remain in the shelters while they settle their status with the authorities.

Since 21 April, a further two groups of around 1,100 and 1,900 people respectively have left Rukban and are being registered in the shelters.
