OVERVIEW
As Syria enters a new year, the country continues to navigate complex and evolving mobility dynamics. Over the past year, Syria’s humanitarian, political, demographic, and recovery landscape has undergone significant transformation as a result of the power shift in Damascus on 8 December 2024. While emerging opportunities for return have been observed across Syria's 14 governorates, mobility trends remain fluid, linked to ongoing shifts in the security situation. The baseline assessment forms a core component of mobility tracking, providing critical data on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), IDP returnees within Syria, and arrivals from abroad, whether returning to their place of origin or settling in new locations. This report presents a comprehensive overview of DTM’s mobility trends during January 2026, alongside updated baseline figures. It aims to support evidencebased humanitarian response, early recovery planning, and sustainable reintegration efforts across the country. Baseline mobility data should be read in conjunction with Communities of Return Index findings to better understand barriers to durable solutions and long-term reintegration
