HIGHLIGHTS
- On 8 February, two children died after being swept away by floodwaters in northern Lattakia countryside. A SARC volunteer was killed and six other SARC staff members were injured in a traffic accident while responding to the emergency in northern Lattakia.
- The flooding reached 21 IDP sites in Idleb and northern Lattakia, in some cases submerging shelters, directly affecting about 5,300 IDPs. Some 1,850 tents were partially damaged and another 149 destroyed. Damage was also reported in 30 houses and several shops in surrounding communities.
- Ain Al‑Bayda private hospital is out of service, with patients and staff evacuated to Jisr Al‑Shughur and Idleb. Seven mobile medical teams and ambulances have been deployed, and a 2.3‑ton shipment of medicines and emergency kits is being sent to the Department of Health in Idleb.
- Syrian authorities have established an emergency response committee to lead response efforts.
- On 8 February, OCHA organized a joint inter‑agency assessment mission to Idleb and Lattakia, with CCCM, Health, Nutrition, Food Security, Shelter/NFI, and GBV partners, engaging senior authorities and visiting affected displacement sites, while access and road assessments continue.
- Humanitarian partners, in coordination with local authorities, are responding with multi-sector assistance and services. CCCM, Health and Shelter/NFI partners are relocating the most affected households, repairing and replacing tents, and distributing NFIs. Drainage works and road rehabilitation are being prioritized to restore access.
- Collective shelters have been opened near Kherbet Al‑Jouz and in northern Lattakia. Many families have self‑relocated to nearby camps or hosts, and Syrian authorities have confirmed readiness of 1,500 housing units in Afrin and 100 in Lattakia.
