OVERVIEW

In support of the Government-led response, humanitarian organizations provided assistance to 346,000 people in February and 195,000 people so far in March, primarily in the most affected governorates of Aleppo, Hama and Lattakia. Frequent changes in the designation of collective shelters continue to affect humanitarian programmes across all sectors but shelter and WASH are the most affected. As of 23 March, the number of collective shelters in Aleppo decreased to 70. While in Lattakia 24 collective shelters are operational; and in Hama there are 18 collective shelters, but three are currently empty.

This week, child protection activities were suspended in schools used as collective shelters in Aleppo, following a decision from the Ministry of Education (MoE). All humanitarian actors providing activities in these shelters will be required to register with the MoE before implementing child protection interventions. Mental health needs continue to increase, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) continues to be reported as the most needed service. Resource gaps remain as a key concern across all sectors
