HIGHLIGHTS

On 7 May, the Syria rapid needs assessment (SYNAT) report for communities affected by the earthquake was issued. This assessment provides an overview of the needs of affected people residing in communities affected by the earthquakes outside of collective shelters.

The total number of emergency collective shelters in all governorates stands at 26 hosting a total of 926 families as of 6 May.

Shelter partners continue to mobilize resources and assistance to the most affected areas through a range of emergency shelter options, including adaptations to collective centres, rehabilitation of collective shelters, mobilizing resources for cash for minor repairs, and supporting authorities in the design of temporary settlements.
SITUATION OVERVIEW
Aleppo
-
The number of shelters is now two emergency and seven medium-term with 313 families (251 families in the medium-term shelters). Around 15-20 families are referred daily to the Operations Room to be hosted in medium-term shelters.

The Shelter sub-national sector rehabilitated two shelters where families were moved. The Operations Room requested rehabilitation of two others.

Structural assessments at Governorate level continue.
Hama
-
The number of collective shelters is now 10 (two in Hama City and eight in the countryside).

As of 7 May, 5,818 families have been identified, including 199 families hosted in collective shelters; 5,459 in local communities; and 160 in rented housing supported by local initiatives.

Since 27 April, 282 families (1,107 people) have been evicted from shelters.

The Operations Room plans to close shelters in Beisine, Ein Elkorum and in Omar Yahia Alfaraji School in Hama City and move the families to shelters in Rabiah, Nahr Elbared and Alsom Walbokom Institute shelter.
Homs
- Thirty-six families (160 people) are in two shelters in Homs City; 753 families (2,943 people) are in local commu- nities; and 234 families returned to areas of origin.
Lattakia
-
629 families (2,556 people) are in 12 short-term shelters across Lattakia.

SARC will transfer SYP3,000,000 to families who will be evicted from two closing shelters.

The Operations Room plans to close shelters in five schools.

The Governorate proposed seven collective shelters as medium-term shelters.

Operations Room is preparing to install 1,000 prefab units in seven locations.

Eight towers, consisting of 320 apartments, are being constructed for affected families.

Demolition is ongoing for 1,139 buildings planned to be demolished.

On 6 May, Operations Room reported exploring disposal solutions for two containers of expired infant formula provided by the Pakistani Government.
