Alouk water station has not been operational for the past 7 months causing critical drinking water shortages for some 500,000 people in Hassakeh and surrounding areas.
Moreover, the low level of the Euphrates river is restricting the power supply for water pumps, which will in turn further exacerbate the water shortage.
While DG ECHO partners provide emergency water supply, a longer term solution is required urgently. Partners are also calling for support for monitoring and managing existing groundwater resources to ensure its safe and sustainable use.
