- Alouk water station has not been operational for the past 7 months causing critical drinking water shortages for some 500,000 people in Hassakeh and surrounding areas.
- Moreover, the low level of the Euphrates river is restricting the power supply for water pumps, which will in turn further exacerbate the water shortage.
- While DG ECHO partners provide emergency water supply, a longer term solution is required urgently. Partners are also calling for support for monitoring and managing existing groundwater resources to ensure its safe and sustainable use.
