General Overview

Key Findings:

• 59,866 IDPs were reported arriving to 155 assessed communities in Idleb governorate in the time period from 21 January - 3 February 2018.

• IDPs most commonly arrived to communities in Dana (16,063), Ariha (13,048), Salqin (7,772), Idleb (4,692) and Mhambal (4,055) subdistricts.

• The majority of IDPs were displaced from communities in Saraqab (20,010), Ma’arrat An Nu’man (12,578), Abul Thohur (8,413), Sanjar (5,478) and Tall Ed-daman (4,835) sub-districts.

Major Developments

Following the escalation of conflict in Idleb governorate in the second half of December 2017, violent clashes between armed opposition groups and Syrian Government forces continued during the coverage period from 21 January to 3 February 2018 with hostilities increasing in particular in Abul Thohur and Saraqab sub-districts in the southeast of the governorate.1 These violent clashes resulted in continued large waves of displacements from communities in the south to the centre or north of the governorate. Moreover, as airstrikes continued in areas further away from conflict lines, such as communities in Ma’arrat An Nu’man, Idleb and Kafr Nobol subdistricts, a significant number of IDPs were displaced from these sub-districts. As large numbers of IDPs, especially from southern Idleb, northern Hama, and western Aleppo governorates had already been displaced to Idleb governorate, new IDP arrivals add to over-burdened camps, informal settlements and host communities.
